Reysie Duck. The Quack Awakens.

Inspired by my friend and Star Wars fan, Daisy Edwards, saying there wasn't enough Daisy Duck merchandise at Disneyland.

For those of you out of the Star Wars loop, here's the main character from the recent films.

Never Tell Me The Odds

My buddy Shaun Cashman came across this drawing I did ages ago when I was his Assistant Director on The Simpsons episode "A Tale of Two Springfields." (click here for the episode).  Many things plagued that show, so much so that the episode itself was put on hold and wasn't finished until about a year after the day it started.

We listened to Who music (when we weren't listening to calming classical) We studied Who footage and I made all this photo reference from DVD, printing out stills and put them in binders.  This was before Google and I don't think the internet was much of anything yet.  Production "issues," the infamous Simpsons crowd scenes, a herd of badgers and rock and roll performances all took it's toll.  The drawing above was hung on our door for quite a while.

Oh yeah, funnily enough, just a year later the particular office Shaun and I shared was closed up due to toxic mold.  But that was only a couple weeks before a background artist got up from her desk to get a soda and a pipe burst above her desk, raining water down from the drop ceiling above.  Luckily the 20 year old drop ceiling blocked the burst and water only poured into her seat and on her belongings, but not her work! - whew - Too bad she wasn't still sitting there, she could have blocked it with her body.

I have a ton of drawings from this episode in storage, as soon as I can, I'll post stuff from it.  I did scan a bunch of Simpsons stuff a couple weeks ago.  It's hard to find the time to organize it, but as I do I'll be posting it. How much do I have?  Well, getting the ALL of it on this blog will probably be a hobby in my retirement.  Keep checking back if you're interested.

Oh yeah, and April fools - even though I missed it.

P.S.
I wanted to tell you guys more, but in lieu of flammable structures usually found above water, here is what is suited for the WORLD WIDE web.

Digging Star Wars: The Terminator

Once again it's time to plug my old college roommate Chris Mich's web series DIGGING STAR WARS. His guest this time was the 3rd inhabitant of apartment 806 circa 199-blah, David Ramos.  Dave and Chris discuss and compare James Cameron's 1st movie in The Terminator series and what correlations it has with Lucas's Star Wars.  A great conversation between two old friends.  Well, two middle aged friends.

Sketchbook Month Day 31 Take II

Well It turns out my emaciated, emotionally distraught, transvestite drawing wasn't family friendly (go figure) for the Sketchbook Month demographic.  Probably shoulda seen that coming, but hey, long live rock.  But, to still end on a high "note" I thought I'd post the sketch I did for my friend Chris Mich's podcast/Web Series DIGGING STAR WARS.  It's a rough, and the final inks are on the way.

Again, it's been great having something to keep me motivated to sketch this month.  Thanks so much to Cedric Hohnstadt for putting together Sketchbook Month and having me be a part of it.  May the force be with you and yours.

What is “Sketchbook Month”?

Illustrator Cedric Hohnstadt has officially declared March 2011 to be Sketchbook Month and created this blog to celebrate. Contributors commit to doing at least one sketch each weekday for the entire month.

What is “Digging Star Wars”?

“Digging Star Wars” explores the films that inspired and are referenced by George Lucas in his six Star Wars movies. Each short podcast/Webisode (about 10 minutes per episode) is dedicated to one of the six Star Wars films and a predecessor film from a previous era. One of the goals of “Digging Star Wars” is to combat age-discrimination against films made prior to 1977-2005 (era Star Wars films were initially released). While it is no longer surprising to encounter professors, students, and industry professionals who have never seen Star Wars, it is discouraging to hear people who refuse to watch any foreign films, black-and-white films, or films made prior to their own birth. The films covered in these podcasts are considered cultural artifacts of their era and country of origin, yet share in common themes, philosophies, and symbols that are reinterpreted throughout time and, specifically, in the Star Wars film series. By unearthing these films and tying them to one of the most financially successful film series of all-time, we hope to encourage people to watch these worthwhile movies!
